McGreevey owes Dina child support, not alimony

The trench warfare going on between Jim and Dina Matos McGreevey has loosened up some, with the former governor ordered to pay chld support, but surprisingly no alimony. The former Garden State first lady had sued to live in the style she had become accustomed as the wife of the state's top elected official. I guess that didn't work out so well.

However, this could be a sign that front-page McGreevey updates could be coming to a conclusion. There has been so much attention on the he said, he said, she said going on with the divorce that the fact this former governor abused his appointment powers horribly has all but been forgotten.

Jim McGreevey was an epicly bad governor who did nothing but bring shame onto the office. Click on the headline to go to the story at NJ.com.

McGreevey-Matos divorce ending? One can hope

The McGreevey-Matos divorce case is finally with the judge. I don't suppose banishing the ex-Gov. is a possibility, but hopefully there is light at the end of the tunnel where it involves an end to "McGreevey Watch."

Ex-Gov. Jim McGreevey was a disgrace as governor. He allowed his personal nonsense to be a criteria for how tax money was spent and that is reprehensible. A lot of people put their trust in this joker, and he turned out to be a shining example of the very worst in American politics and government.

While his personal life is his own, and any of the baggage that came with it, Jim McGreevey was a cheap carnival huckster as a public servant. The sooner he is gone from public life and notice, the better. What a monumental disappointment of an elected official. Click on the headline to go to NJ.com.

McGreevey emails were destroyed

I think something that hasn't become a big deal yet, but probably will, is public access to governmental e-mails. What public officials write on computers bought and paid for with tax dollars should be accessible to the public after a time, and not just some of it -- all of it.

If a computer has been paid for with money from the public, and used in the public's business, then it stands to reason the public should have compete access to the work that computer did, on some kind of regulated basis or through procedure.

At no point should a public official have an expectation of ownership over merchandise paid for with tax money -- but many do because of a distorted sense of public service that has been institutionalized in New Jersey politics and government.

Caption: On the lighter side, I got a chance to go to Turkey Swamp Park, in Freehold, a few weeks ago. It's really a great stop in the summer for hiking and the like. But during the winter, it has some magnificent views.

McGreevey: No one ever said he was a class act

NJ.com has an article about former Gov. Jim McGreevey running down his former wife, Dina Matos, in court. His claims are really critical, and it's unfortunate.

Ex-Gov. McGreevey is a Garden State nightmare that just keeps on happening. After blaming his personal woes on state residents, embarassing anyone who ever supported the guy, abusing his ability to appoint public officials, dragging this state through the mud to the delight of talk show hosts from sea to sea, I guess he's going to start doing that to his family now. It doesn't stop.

It's really unfortunate. He's like a train wreck that won't stop blowing up. Click on the headline and see the latest crash.

Seward is right about McGreevey

Jim McGreevey was the worst governor in the history of the state. I had heard, in college, that it was almost universally agreed at one time that 19th century Garden State Governor Robert Howell was given that 'honor' by some academics somewhere.

Well, all records were made to be broken, and just like Babe Ruth surrendered his season homerun mark to only-legitimate comer Roger Maris, in '61, Gov. Howell must take a bow and bid his place in history farewell.

James McGreevey was and is a disgrace. He is an unabashed disgrace, who works hard at making sure everyone knows he is a great big disgrace...by writing about it in books, teaching his wisdom from the lectern and giving many interviews.

McGreevey's problem was not his orientation, but his abuse of office in granting office to unqualified persons for reasons that are best summed up as 'personal.' His conduct was epically bad. I do not believe that whether someone is gay or straight should be an issue of office. His problem was patently being a poor steward of public trust. He should not be rewarded with prosperity for what he did to government in this state.
