Cocuzza: ‘McCain will take this year’s election’

Union Beach Councilman Charlie Cocuzza is out in the streets of the borough making the case for the Republican ticket this year.

“I’m trying to get people out there to vote,” Cocuzza said. “I think John McCain has made a good case over the past several weeks where it regards the direction he wants to take the country.”

Cocuzza said McCain has found a strong voice to make it clear than his administration will be America’s best bet for the future.

“The only poll that matters is the one that is taken after the election,” Cocuzza said. “There are all kinds of polls out there and they cannot be trusted. Today, this poll by the voters is the one that counts.”

Cocuzza confirmed that voter turnout in Union Beach is high. There are approximately 3,600 registered voters in the Bayshore town. According to Cocuzza, he expects a records turn out in Union Beach.

By way of predictions, the long-time Bayshore Republican said he expects McCain to win today, and for the county to vote Republican for the freeholder ticket this year.

Obama: People need a break from politics

Sen. Barack Obama, the Democratic contender for the presidency, recently talked about his extra-long primary and the lack of a pause before going into campaign mode against Sen. John McCain, the Republican contender for president.

What's the root source of the recession?

Personally, I do not believe the recession is a psychological phenomenon. I think it's a lot more concrete than that. But, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

McCain on Health-care for returning vets

Sen. McCain gets testy here with a veteran discussing his voting record about health-care for returning vets from Afghanistan and Iraq. I certainly think Sen. McCain has done a lot for veterans, and is himself someone who served with great distinction. There must be a good reason why he didn't like the bill the man was talking about. I think just saying it like it is would be better than getting irritated over a question.

Wall Street: Showing Obama the money

According to a story in the New York Daily News, Wall Street is investing in the campaign of Sen. Barack Obama for president of the United States. Sen. Obama has garnered a war chest twice as large as that of Sen. John McCain, who is running on the Republican slate for president.

The PolitickerNJ has a good story about a recent FDU poll in New Jersey, showing Democratic Presidential Candidate Barack Obama with a 49-33 percent advantage against Republican Presidential Candidate John McCain. McCain: Jersey 'winnable' -- I don't think so

In an APP story, Presidential candidate John McCain does two things: complains about the Supreme Court decision saying that non-residents held in custody cannot be so forever without charges being leveled and he believes New Jersey is winnable by the GOP.

Personally, I think the notion that there have to be legitimate charges against someone being held in custody is pretty much a minimum -- regardless of what race, creed, color, or national origin involved. Why was this ever a discussion?

That New Jersey is "winnable" by the GOP is speculative. The GOP is responsible for the war, the economy and, according to Sen. McCain, a lot more war in the future. In fact, the GOP is promising that this country will stay at war (e.g. keep lying to Americans about the nature of this war), stay in trouble monetarily/economically and there will be a lot more of the same. I guess Sen. McCain is running on the GOP record and -- somehow -- he thinks that is good.

This was the most disastrous period of American history nationally, in my opinion, with the most flawed leadership in this country's experience. Far from embracing it, Republicans should be running away from this nonsense as far and fast as they could. America couldn't sustain four more years of this variety of alleged leadership, regardless how much rhetoric is wrapped around these misdeeds. Anything would be better. Nothing could be worse.

AP: Obama looks like the winner, plans on McCain

U.S. Senator Barack Obama looks like he is going to get the Democratic nomination, though Sen. Hillary Clinton has yet to concede defeat, according to the Associated Press. Nevertheless, Sen. Obama is already talking about some of the issues he is going to bring up in the General Election with Sen. John McCain.

Without doubt, Sen. McCain is a good person, a brave American and a true patriot. But are his ideas the ones I am going to vote for? No. I would have voted for either Sen. Obama or Sen. Clinton, but it is clear that the freshman senator from Illinois is going to get the job of candidate.

Whether it was Sen. Obama or Sen. Clinton, either one of them present an opportunity for not only history, but the re-visitation of several vital issues by this nation. Has the interpretation of what is truly "American" been minimized by some to the point where the ideal presidential candidate must be a white male? Maybe. If that could be true then it can't be right. Frankly, it just doesn't matter if someone comes from a different walk of life when the future of this country is at a crossroad.

America's tattered economy is linked to the historic borrowing this country has done in the name of foreign intervention. Sen. Obama represents a chance to turn the tide on that. He also offers an opportunity to re-establish positive relations in a world where it has not been so in a long time, in many ways and in several countries.

Certainly, everyone has their opinion and should express it. This is just mine. I don't think picketing candidates is necessary, as was done to Sen. McCain in Lakewood. I do not believe fabricating a lot of nonsense should be the way to go either. These two guys, senators McCain and Obama, have different ideas about how things can get better. Is it too much to hope that folks can just hear what they have to say, weigh it for themselves on merit and then go into the booth? Well, probably that is too much to want. It's a way to go, though.

Obama has lead on Clinton: Gallup

According to the APP, a Gallup poll has Sen. Obama with an edge on Sen. Clinton, by 10 percent. Reportedly, both trail GOP presidential candidate Sen. John McCain in a General Election match-up.

From a Democratic point of view, it's probably time to call the ball on this thing and put the Primary to bed, before there's not much of a General Election to have.

McCain, Obama are looking like they'll square off in Nov.

The NY Post posted new polls about the Presidential Race at its site. According to the surveys, both Sen. John McCain, in the Republican Party, and Sen. Barack Obama, in the Democratic Party, are looking like they are going to be the candidates.

The news about Sen. McCain really isn't news. Meanwhile, the race between Sen. Hillary Clinton and Sen. Obama goes back and forth so much it's like watching a tennis game. Click on the headline to go to the NY Post.

McCAIN TAKES GOP NOMINATION!

Sen. John McCain has won the Republican nomination for president this year. Whether he wins or loses, Sen. McCain is a great American and a class act.

Now the question lingers: Who will he face at the polls in November -- Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama? Only time will tell.

AP: Hillary's campaign could be on last legs

According to an AP story in the NY Post, Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign could be on its last legs since many of her super delegates might be jumping ship.

Personally, I think Sen. Clinton would make a great president. But if it's not in the cards then it's not. Sen. Obama would also make a great president. That's certainly not meant as a back-handed remark about Sen. John McCain, the Republican front-runner.

Sen. McCain is a true American hero, a great statesman and a great example for Americans. I just disagree with many of his issues, so I'll be voting Democratic this year, regardless of if it is Clinton or Obama.

But, this is probably going to be a terrible election from the point of view of all the name calling. I suppose that is the way it is today. Click on the headline to go to the NY Post story about the super delegates.

McCain targeted by media because they can

There is a story out there about John McCain, involving his personal life and it is out of line, in my opinion. Similarly, there are stories out there about Barack Obama. There have, similarly, always been stories out there about the Clintons.

All of this is so much nonsense. Talk about tax money, and if it was abused, then I'm all ears. Talk about poor judgment in office, and it's fair game. Start talking about candidates' personal lives, families or ancestors and it is just so much tripe.

John McCain, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are all great Americans, who are each running for president and have demonstrated a great deal of commitment toward the nation and what it stands for. The garbage going on during this race is terrible, to say the least. To say the most, it's a zoo.

The presidential contest has become a contest where the most talked about things are seldom initiatives being discussed insofar as government. It's a shame, because with government having failed this government for so long, it would be good to hear some ideas about how to pick it up out of the open grave it has been languishing in for some time.

Limbaugh takes aim at McCain

I'm not a supporter of any of the Republicans out there for president. Nevertheless, just because someone is running for president doesn't mean they should be publicly scandalized by someone likeRush Limbaugh (or Ann Coulter or fill in the blank).

I think Sen. McCain has done a lot for the country. I do not generally agree with many of his positions on the issues. But I think this kind of public mockery of someone like Sen. McCain shows clearly how the stranger parts of the GOP does business.

Rush Limbaugh is, in my opinion, the standard-bearer for most of what is wrong with politics these days. It would be good to get a break from that sort of thing for a few years. Click on the headline and go to a story about this.
