New Yorker's Hertzberg talks about Dem debate

Has politics ever changed? The New Yorker's Hendrik Hertzberg offers commentary about last Wednesday's Philadelphia debate between senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama for the Democratic nod for president. What I thought was interesting was the part where moderator Charlie Gibson tried to put the candidates on the spot about the winner of the contest accepting the loser as vice president. I think the ship sailed on that one a long time ago.

I think it would be hard for the Democratic Party to lose this year's General Election contest for president. But, as is always the case in recent years, the Dems are doing everything they can to divide the party and make things as easy as possible for the GOP. It would be refreshing to see a certain amount of unity coming from the Dems this--or any--year.

Is it time for Clinton to face facts?

Time/CNN has posted 14 reasons by Mr. Mark Halperin why Sen. Hillary Clinton should drop out of the race for president. His reasons are logical and sound. I think there is one compelling reason, which is that it is time.

Obama has lead on Clinton: Gallup

According to the APP, a Gallup poll has Sen. Obama with an edge on Sen. Clinton, by 10 percent. Reportedly, both trail GOP presidential candidate Sen. John McCain in a General Election match-up.

From a Democratic point of view, it's probably time to call the ball on this thing and put the Primary to bed, before there's not much of a General Election to have.

McCain, Obama are looking like they'll square off in Nov.

The NY Post posted new polls about the Presidential Race at its site. According to the surveys, both Sen. John McCain, in the Republican Party, and Sen. Barack Obama, in the Democratic Party, are looking like they are going to be the candidates.

The news about Sen. McCain really isn't news. Meanwhile, the race between Sen. Hillary Clinton and Sen. Obama goes back and forth so much it's like watching a tennis game. Click on the headline to go to the NY Post.

McCAIN TAKES GOP NOMINATION!

Sen. John McCain has won the Republican nomination for president this year. Whether he wins or loses, Sen. McCain is a great American and a class act.

Now the question lingers: Who will he face at the polls in November -- Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama? Only time will tell.

AP: Hillary's campaign could be on last legs

According to an AP story in the NY Post, Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign could be on its last legs since many of her super delegates might be jumping ship.

Personally, I think Sen. Clinton would make a great president. But if it's not in the cards then it's not. Sen. Obama would also make a great president. That's certainly not meant as a back-handed remark about Sen. John McCain, the Republican front-runner.

Sen. McCain is a true American hero, a great statesman and a great example for Americans. I just disagree with many of his issues, so I'll be voting Democratic this year, regardless of if it is Clinton or Obama.

But, this is probably going to be a terrible election from the point of view of all the name calling. I suppose that is the way it is today. Click on the headline to go to the NY Post story about the super delegates.

McCain targeted by media because they can

There is a story out there about John McCain, involving his personal life and it is out of line, in my opinion. Similarly, there are stories out there about Barack Obama. There have, similarly, always been stories out there about the Clintons.

All of this is so much nonsense. Talk about tax money, and if it was abused, then I'm all ears. Talk about poor judgment in office, and it's fair game. Start talking about candidates' personal lives, families or ancestors and it is just so much tripe.

John McCain, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are all great Americans, who are each running for president and have demonstrated a great deal of commitment toward the nation and what it stands for. The garbage going on during this race is terrible, to say the least. To say the most, it's a zoo.

The presidential contest has become a contest where the most talked about things are seldom initiatives being discussed insofar as government. It's a shame, because with government having failed this government for so long, it would be good to hear some ideas about how to pick it up out of the open grave it has been languishing in for some time.

Do Clinton, McCain, Romney face being 'voted off island' in NH?

It's election eve in New Hampshire and nerves are fraying, hair is getting pulled out, candidates are sweating and Democrats and Republicans alike are trying to avoid elimination by capturing a win in their respective parties.

What's on the line for Hillary? Maybe everything.

It is likely the same for John McCain, who is considered a long-time N.H. favorite.

As for Romney, in the wake of an Iowa defeat, a N.H. win would put him right back on top. Without that win, is he a real contender anymore?

Meanwhile, fighting through the swamps and gators of Florida, all but forgotten by the GOP gladiators, is prodical front-runner Rudy Giuliani, pinning his presidential hopes on snowbirds, football fans and the air-conditioner crowd down South.

Where's this going? No idea. But it's not dull. Click on the headline to go to the AP story.

OBAMA, HUCKABEE WIN IN IOWA!

Well, the wheels are in motion for Decision '08. According to the AP, Rev. Mike Huckabee has garnered an Iowa win for the GOP, while Sen. Barak Obama has won the Democratic vote for that state.

While GOP favorite Rudy Giuliani did not work all that hard in Iowa, and is making his fight in the road ahead, I can't help but believe this is a significant setback for the Romney campaign. Romney put forth a significant effort there.

Meanwhile, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton did seem to lose this one outright to Obama, though I am sure this is only the first round of several to come.

Questions: How is Rudy's campaign going to look in the wake of the Huckabee win? Is this a speed bump for Hillary or the beginning of a back-and-forth fight across the U.S.?

Presidential Election Quiz; Hillary group formed in Monmouth

I received a "Presidential Election Quiz" from a few folks. Click on the headline to go check it out.

But, personally, I didn't need a quiz to figure out who I was hoping would be our next president. While she's not always Ms. Popular with Conservative Republicans, I think only Hillary Rodham Clinton has the experience, responsibility and vision to do what it takes to put this country back on the right track.

There's a group that was started to help get Hillary elected in Monmouth County. Middletown Democrat Greg Gibadlo, a former freeholder candidate and president of the Bayshore Democratic Club, is involved.

Last night, I attended a meeting at the Ink Well, Second Street, Long Branch. The group is just getting put together but has some wonderful people involved. As the election season progresses, I am sure they will pick up a lot of momentum.

If anyone is interested in joining, give Greg a call at (732) 671-4181, or e-mail him at: gibadlo@aol.com.
