Holocaust Center hosts survivors of the St. Louis

The story of the SS St. Louis is a powerful one. It was an ill-fated voyage in 1939, where German Jews were literally set adrift from their country. It is one of the earliest tales of terror during World War II. Today, at the Student Life Center at Brookdale Community College, the Holocaust Center is hosting the 11 survivors of that journey that started with 1,000 souls so long ago. I will be posting more about this. In the meantime, Courier Staff Writer Melissa Gaffney will be writing a piece about it in this week's upcoming Courier.

Click on the headline to go to the center's website.

As an FYI: I also bumped into Etzion Neuer, the regional director of New Jersey for the Anti-Defamation League. The ADL is simultaneously hosting a workshop for campus police and security people from around the state about hate groups today. For more information about the ADL, they have a website at: www.adl.org. The ADL is a great organization and doing some fine work. I saw some of the materials they were using for the presentations and they were very powerful.
